The medical prescription is a right conferred on dental surgeons. For this reason, our work aims to assess the prescription of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs by dentists in the wilaya of Sétif. A field survey was carried out on a sample of 70 dentists from the wilaya of Sétif in a period of 5 months (from October 13, 2019 to March 10, 2020). This study is based on a questionnaire intended for dentists. This investigation led to the following results: After 33 questions, or 55% of dentists are aware that they are prescribing correctly by following the latest recommendations and the criteria for choosing the different molecules. Beta-lactams (amoxicillin) remain the antibiotic of choice with a percentage of (80%) and in cases of beta-lactam allergy, 82% of dentists have replaced them with true macrolides (spiramycin). On the other hand, 45% of dentists have neglected the recommendations and they have sometimes made intolerable prescription errors. 56% of dentists prescribed amoxicillin for kidney failure. Although the administration of macrolides is advocated. Out of all the surveys, 73 of them said that anti-inflammatory drugs increase the risk of infection, but in reality this notion is not scientifically established. What is evident that anti-inflammatory drugs mask the signs infection and the prescription of an anti-inflammatory alone does not justify the prescription of an antibiotic. 74% of dentists recommended the prescription of NSAI to prevent an inflammatory process. While NSAI are prescribed for pure analgesia. It is therefore necessary, even essential, to put in place a regulatory framework and associations relating to drug prescriptions. This will increase job safety for patients and safety of practice for the practitioner.
